The Beacon School

 What is B'DAT?

B’DAT is the Beacon Drama Art Theatre. The after school theatre company is comprised of a large group of student theatre artists that collaborate to produce a main stage play, main stage musical, Freshman Project, Choir Concert and Student Play Festival called 10x12.  Beacon theatre students collaborate with professional theatre artists and produce ambitious and mature performances that defy the standards of high school “drama clubs”. We are a pre-professional theatre company of young people.

B’DAT is the umbrella organization to the B’DAT Show Choir the B’DAT Tech Team and is the home of International Thespian Society Troupe #6968 which celebrates excellence in the performing arts.

Since its creation in 2004, B'DAT has produced topical and complex productions including Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses, with the pool, Pippin, Proof and The Who's Tommy.

Last year B'DAT was honored to produce the first school staging of Spring Awakening, uncut, to rave reviews. In 2009 B'DAT also produced the first high school staging of Rent, School Edition on the east coast only to be followed by another high school debut in 2009 with the Beacon production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. During the fall of 2012, B'DAT produced a Jersey Shore staging of Shakespeare's As You Like It, benefitting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Beacon Theatre students produce exceptional work, excel at annual Educational Theatre Association events, graduate to professional training at top ranked conservatories and pursue careers in the performing arts.
