 WHO'S WHO

Jonathan Judson Boyles

He’s Judson.  He’s Jonathan.  He’s just J.  And he’s exceptionally driven, optimistic, supportive, successful, and passionate in his relationships, work, and play.  He grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and is the youngest of four.  As he is quick to acknowledge, “my siblings paved the way wide and deep.”  At a young age, he became a local celebrity on Francisco Road where he amassed the neighborhood in the front yard to hear the weather report.  He also showed a keen ability to steer conversations with such gems as, “Let’s change the subject.  Let’s talk about hogs.”  Jonathan auditioned and was accepted to be a member of the All Saints Boys Choir, Virginia’s only boys choir, where he once performed with the Vienna Boys Choir.  He also engaged in popular music, singing “Fame” in his 5th grade talent show.  Jonathan learned ballroom dancing and social graces at Miss Cleiland Donnan’s cotillion.  The accomplishment for which Jonathan is perhaps most proud is that he is an Eagle Scout.  He embodies and takes very seriously the honor and community service standards that are required for this great achievement.  At UVa, Jonathan graduated with honors with a double major in Comparative Literature and French Language and Literature.  While in law school, Jonathan was managing editor of The Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law’s First Annual Review of Gender and Sexuality Law, the first ever annual survey of gender and sexuality law, which encompassed 500 pages of text (and 3,000 footnotes and 9,000 citations, but who is counting – probably Jonathan).  Jonathan is a tax attorney practicing in employee benefits and executive compensation.  He has worked for union-side firms and management-side firms, and in between he served as general counsel of a multi-billion dollar multiemployer union pension fund.  For the last seven years, Jonathan has been with McDermott Will & Emery, where he also spearheads pro bono work for LGBT asylum seekers who have been persecuted and tortured in their home countries simply for being gay.  In 2011, Jonathan was named as one of the Best 40 Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBT Bar Association.  On top of all this, he’s a DJ, and will be rocking our reception.  Jonathan has boundless energy for life, connectivity, and exploration.
