The Unsinkable Molly Brown - August 08 - August 12, 2013

Benson Gristmill Performing Arts Foundation

 Notes

From the Director

Thanks for joining us tonight!  As you can see we are continuing the Gristmill Tradition, just in a slightly different venue.  When we first decide to pick shows for the Gristmill’s summer program we try to pick a show that can include as many community members as possible.  You’ll see tonight we have some of the best from across the Tooele Valley!  Molly’s story is one we can all relate to in some way, she wants to belong, she wants security, and she wants love.  Molly’s story is also something to be proud of, she pulled herself up by the bootstraps and made a success out of her life.

Tooele County is full of an incredible wealth of talent!  There are numerous opportunities from our High School and Junior High School Theatres, our Community Theatres, our Dance Companies, and our Musicians, please support them.  Take time to see the shows that are presented in our valley during the year, they're all an amazing value for what they charge.  On top of that, if they ask for your help, help them! If they need your support to continue, make a donation!  These Arts Organizations are what help make our Valley into the amazing place it was meant to be!

Enjoy the show!

From the Producer

I wanted to take a moment to publically thank those people that haven't been mentioned yet in the program, YOU!

2013 has been particularly challenging for Tooele County. Many changes have taken place, most notably, our venue, the Benson Grist Mill, was closed for the season due to funding issues. In addition, funding that we usually receive from Tooele County's Tourism Tax was no longer available. As the Production Team and I deliberated on whether to put on the show, we realized that while our usual location may be unavailable, "We ain't down yet!".  The Production Team decided that "The show must go on!" and we went to work on finding alternate venues, fundraising ideas, and rallying community support.

It is because of YOU that we perform before you today.  YOU showed us that the tradition of the Benson Grist Mill Performing Arts must go on.  The support we have received from community businesses, through donations and ads, displaying our posters, and most importantly, buying a ticket, has been overwhelming.  I am humbled and honored to call Tooele County my home. Like Molly says, "We've got so much livin' and lovin' to do!". So, Belly Up to the Bar, Folks.  Give yourselves a hand, and enjoy the show!
